My approach to teaching music

My approach to teaching piano, writing music, arranging music, recording music and producing music is simple:

It is about YOU and YOUR desires, aims and aspirations to indulge in the magic of making music.

Everyone has their own ideas of what music music means to them and have their own take on what they want
You know what music means to you and, if you are here, then you clearly have some desire to dive deeper in to the world of making music.

It may be simply playing a few simple tunes on a keyboard for your own entertainment, learning songs of rogue favourite artist, entertaining friends on family in piano, writing those songs from all the ideas you had while in the shower.

Whatever it is it’s about your journey, your desires and you musical curiosity

Making music is available to everyone. You decide to what level, in what manner and at what pace you want to learn. Whatever you want to do I’ll help you and guide you to achieve whatever outcomes you desire

Modern Piano and Music Learning

Don’t be intimidated by ‘old school’ thinking and the old piano teachers approach from when you were in High School. You remember when the old music teacher stated that  there were only two kinds of music: classical, jazz and then there was that other modern stuff? Arguably there is a place for old school traditional teaching but it’s not with me

No need to worry about exams, Chopin preludes, scales and technical exercises for 3 months before you play your first tune. I’ll have you playing tunes as soon as you want…and tuned that you know, like and have always wanted to play

No shortcuts to learning piano but…

And, just to be clear, there are no shortcuts. I’m not over promising resultsor offering a magic answer to instantly become Herbie Hancock. But you can quickly get to a stage where you make some music and feel good about playing the music you want to play, on your terms.

Piano Technique

Technique and rudiments form the basis of any skill and pursuit and are necessary to some degree, but you (with my help) will will decide what, where, when and how you will learn so that you get what you want for your journey into the world of marking music.

Learning to Make, Write and Record Music

I can help you with many elements of making music, not just piano.

I have a wide range of skills and knowledge that I have built up over 40 years of playing, performing, writing, arranging, recording and producing music.

What do you want to learn?

My music teaching and music tutoring is very flexible and results orientated.

  1. You and I decide on what you want to achieve
  2. We then decide on how best to get you there.
  3. We set up customised music learning plan for you to learn and achieve your musical objectives.

If you are unsure what you want to achieve I can help you with that.

I am a big bloever in goal setting. We need to define where you want to be then decide a route to get you there.  Without a goal we have nothing.

Think of it like a road map.

  1. Decide your destination
  2. Plan a route based on your time and resources.
